The Star and Barrow (Call of Cthulhu)
November, 1925
Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK
As the semester draws to a close, you find yourselves in The County Arms pub, a fine establishment with plenty of the local ales and hearty Sunday roasts. A blazing fire crackles in the corner, a rare source of warmth in the cold, damp English climate. The atmosphere is hushed, as students huddle around the fire, order a pint or two and mull over the latest lecture; a few tutors are here, too, reviewing their tutees' progress and examining paper proposals. The barman, a portly chap, seems unusually grim today, pouring ale and taking orders with barely a "hmph" of acknowledgement, and ever so often, he looks out the window into the dark night, as though waiting for something... suddenly, over the hushed murmur of conversation, you hear:
"A:Hey, the next Secret Lecture at the Star and Barrow will happen sometime this week or next. A professor Julius Smyth is coming, a most interesting fellow. They say he is here to debate Doctor Hubble about the very nature of Space and time!"
"B:Really? Sounds like a waste of time. And space."
"C:Hush, you. They say no one knows where the Star and Barrow is, and to even mention its name is to bring misfortune upon yourself. I bet you'll be having a lovely time with your papers, now."
"A:I've no idea what you lot are talking about. It's the event of the semester! I'm going to find out where the Star and Barrow is, and go to this talk. Bet i'll have more fun than downing Drunk Monk here at the County Arms."
The last remark earns A a stern look from the barman, and the conversation dies off...
The Star and Barrow is a mystery and horror adventure for up to six players using the Call of Cthulhu rules. Meet secret societies, find out what horrors lurk on the rooftops and in the basements of old Cambridge, and solve the mystery before it's too late!
